Darren Aronofsky president
US director Darren Aronofsky will preside over the jury at the 68th Venice International Film Festival (August 31-September 10).
Winner of Venice’s Golden Lion in 2008 for The Wrestler, the filmmaker opened last year’s Mostra with Black Swan, which went on to be nominated for five Oscars (winning one, Best Actress, for Natalie Portman), four Golden Globes (again picking up Best Actress) and four Independent Spirit Awards.
Aronofksy made his feature debut in 1998 with Pi, which won him Best Director at the Sundance Film Festival and the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay. His second film, Requiem for a Dream, was selected at Cannes 2000. In 2006, the filmmaker was in competition at the 63rd Venice Fest with the sci-fi film The Fountain.
France’s most prestigious film magazine, Cahiers du Cinema, dedicated its cover story to Aronofsky this past February and called him "the leader of a new generation".
