BBC Films unveils slate

BBC Films have announced their upcoming slate of films at the Cannes Market.

Theatre director Rufus Norris will make his feature debut with social drama Broken, an adaptation by Mark O’Rowe of Daniel Clay’s novel starring Cillian Murphy.

Morgan Matthews will debut in features with an adaptation of his 2005 BBC documentary Beautiful Young Minds.

, BBC Films will work again with Lone Scherfig, on Martin Sherman’s adaptation of Rose Tremain’s Music and Silence.

Renowned British political journalist Tom Bradby will also make his feature bow with political thriller Defence of the Realm that will be produced by Lynda Myles and Jason Newmark of Newscope Films.

Veteran director Mike Newell returns with Dickens adaptation Great Expectations. Stephen Woolley and Elizabeth Karlsen at Number 9 Films will be producing the adaptation by novelist and screenwriter David Nicholls. The cast includes Helena Bonham-Carter and Jeremy Irvine and will start shooting in the UK in September.

Other films include Tom and Charlie Guard’s Swallows and Amazons; Paul King’s Peter Pan in Scarlet; Ol Parker’s Now Is GoodMax Giwa and Daniela Pasquini’s Streetdance 2, in conjunction with Vertigo Films.
