Abel Ferrara to receive Locarno Leopard of Honor
by Emmanuel Cuénod
New York filmmaker Abel Ferrara will be feted by the Locarno Film Festival (August 3-13) this year with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The enfant terrible of American cinema will receive the honor in Locarno’s Piazza Grande on August 5.
Ferrara will seize the occasion to present an exclusive preview of extracts from his latest work: 4:44 Last Day on Earth, starring Willem Dafoe and currently in production.
Festival-goers will also be able to catch several older films – including Bad Lieutenant and King of New York – by this, as Locarno’s artistic director Olivier Père puts it, “witty rock rebel who films and is interested in suffering".
On August 6, Abel Ferrara will also hold a masterclass.
