Swedish director Mikael Marcimain’s feature debut, Call Girl, took the lion’s share - €1.3 million - of the Swedish Film Institute’s new support package of €3.5 million , which will co-fund 10 new productions.

film profile] to star with Simon J Berger in the story by Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten, which will be shot by Oscar-winning Hoyte van Hoytema (The Fighter). Mimmi Spång will produce for Garage Film.

Based on Sweden’s 1977 bordellhärvan scandal, which started with revelations that the then Minister of Justice was a frequent client with prostitutes, Call Girl is described as a sensational, political thriller exploring a society of ”lost innocense, female emancipation, sexual revolution, neutrality, nuclear power and social security.”

Co-produced with Swedish regional film centre, Film i Väst, public broadcaster Sveriges Television, the Chimney Pot Sverige, Nuovago Capital, Frlland Produksjon, Yellow Film & TV, Marcimain’s first feature following his TV dramas How Soon Is Now (2007) The Laser Man (2005) will be released by Nordisk Film in autumn 2012.

The Swedish Film Institute’s package of new productions also included one as yet untitled by Swedish director Frederik Edfeldt, the follow-up on his award-winning The Girl [+see also:

film profile] (2009). Karin Arrhenius has written the story of a father, sentenced to jail, who flees to spend a last summer with his daughter. Fatima Varhos and Anna Croneman will produce for Bob Film, which received €0.9 million state subsidy.

film profile]/2006) was backed by €0.7 million to film his Blondie, about the homecoming of three sisters whose mother is preparing for her 70th birthday. One is leaving her glamorous modelling job in Paris, the other her studies in London, while the third suspends her double life as a hard-working surgeon and a mother-of two. Jesper Kurlandsky/Fasad is behind the production.
