FUNDING Germany / Russia

German-Russian co-development fund set up

by

At the Moscow Co-production Forum (June 20-22), German and Russian representatives agreed to set up a German-Russian co-development fund. On Tuesday, June 28, the agreement was signed in Moscow by Peter Dinges, head of the German Federal Film Board (FFA), Kirsten Niehuus of regional fund MBB (Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg), Manfred Schmidt of the MDM (Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung) and Sergei Tolstikov, head of the Russian Film Fund.

The aim of the new fund is to increase the number of co-productions between the two countries and foster collaborations right from the project development stage. The funded projects should be suited to the German and Russian markets, as well as the international market.

The creation of this joint fund is part of a continued collaboration between Germany and Russia: in the last five years, 11 German/Russian co-productions have come to fruition.

The fund has an annual budget of €150,000 to which the Russian Film Fund and the FFA must contribute €50,000 each, the MBB and MDM €25,000 each.

The deadline for submitting the first funding applications has been set for November 1, 2011. The rules and registration forms are available on the websites of the FFA, MBB and MDM.
