Cinema admissions up 4.2% in Norway, with 10.4% increase for local films
While most European countries have registered a drop in cinema admisssions during the first half of 2011, Norwegian theatres have shown an increase of 4.2% – and audiences for local films have increased by 10.4%, according to statistics published by Norwegian cinema association Film & Kino.
”The digital roll-out has particularly supported small- and medium-sized theatres, with more premieres, 3D screenings and an extended supply of films,” explained Film & Kino Head of Communcations Birgitte Langballe. ”A recent series of blockbusters have also attracted cinema-goers.”
May and June admissions were 30% above the average of the past 10 years – May took a record 1,004,619, followed by 828,781 in June, only exceeded by 2004 when Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban filled theatres. US product dominated the charts, but local films sold 17.4% of the tickets, which is up 10.4% on 2010.
