Declaration of War sweeps all at Paris Cinéma
The Jury Prize, the Audience Award and the Bloggers Award – the electrifying and moving Declaration of War [+see also:
film profile] by France’s Valérie Donzelli scored a perfect three at the 9th edition of the Paris Cinéma festival. After stealing the show at Cannes’ Semaine de la Critique (see compte-rendu) and having won the Grand Prix at the Cabourg Film Festival in June, the feature – produced by Rectangle Productions and sold internationally by Wild Bunch – will now begin a tour of premieres in French cinemas, where it will be released by Wild Bunch Distributiuon on 31 August.
The international competition’s jury (which notably included film-makers Gilles Marchand and Thierry Jousse, as well as actors Lubna Azabal and Mathieu Demy) also gave a special mention to On The Plank [+see also:
film profile] by Leïla Kilani (a co-production by Marocco, France et Germany, discovered at Directors’ Fortnight). Finally, the Students Award went to another European co-production: The Prize by Paula Markovitch (Mexico, France, Poland, Germany), which in February won a Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution at the Berlin film festival.
