by

The bilateral Franco-German co-production support committee, which met in Berlin on July 11, allocated €698,000 between three projects, including a majority German title and two French initiative co-productions.

Nicolas Wackerbarth’s summery drama Halbschatten, starring Sandra Hüller, obtained €200,000 for Cologne-based producer unafilm (making an 80% investment in the film), and €48,000 for Paris-based Les Films d’Antoine (20% investment). The film will be shot in the South of France.

Leos Carax’s big-screen comeback, Holly Motors, featuring his favourite actor Denis Lavant (who will play ten roles in ten different styles in a futuristic Paris) and Kate Moss, received €200,000 on the French side (Pierre Grise Productions, 80%) and €150,000 on the German side (Pandora, 20%).

Finally, Christophe Cognet’s documentary La Beauté (“Beauty”) obtained €60,000 for French company La Huit SAS (62.5%) and €40,000 for its Cologne-based partner Augenschein Filmproduktion (37.5%).

The next deadline for submitting funding applications has been set for September 19. The committee will meet in Paris four days later.
