Musician turned writer/director Crispian Mills, formerly of the band Kula Shaker, has commenced principal photography on his debut feature A Fantastic Fear Of Everything at the Pinewood Group’s Shepperton Studios and other London locations. Music video director Chris Hopewell debuts as co-director.

Simon Pegg (Paul) is starring in the psycho-comedy about a children’s author turned crime novelist whose life turns changes for the worse when a Hollywood executive takes an interest in his script. The film also stars Amara Karan (The Task), Clare Higgins (Toast [+see also:

) and Sheridan Smith (Hysteria).

The film is the first of the new batch of films from Pinewood Films, who announced earlier this year that they were making a return to investing in film production, supporting independent, British films with budgets in the £2 million range (see news).

Universal Pictures and Indomina Releasing will distribute the film that is a co-production with Keel Films and Collision Films.

UK Creative Industries Minister Ed Vaizey said, “I’m delighted to see Pinewood Films getting off the ground with this new production. It’s a vote of confidence in the British film industry, and another step forwards in terms of a diverse and vibrant production sector in the UK producing films people want to watch.”
