26/02/2003 - RTBF journalists voice opposition to Magellan Plan proposals for major overhaul in an open letter to Belgian daily, "Le Libre"

A few months ago the Magellan Plan (Magellan Plan) recommended a major overhaul at Belgian broadcaster RTBF, a suggestion that was not welcomed at the time, although it is currently being implemented. Four experts were asked to help the Permanent Committee of RTBF to sift through the 160 candidates and select a short-list of three for each of the 25 vacancies. They submitted their findings but implementation was delayed after the this week’s scheduled Committee meetings were postponed. RTBF is now scheduled to designate its new hierarchical set-up. RTBF journalists voiced their opposition to the methods used in an open letter entitled “Indecency at RTBF” that was published in the 26 February issue of “La Libre Belgique, in which they said that political pressure had been brought to bear on RTBF projects.
