Cineplexx opens new multiplexes in Serbia and Croatia

by

Cineplexx International GmbH, a joint venture of Austria’s Constantin-Film Group of companies and Serbia’s distributor/exhibitor MegaCom Film (MCF), with Croatia’s Continental Film as a minority shareholder, has taken over two multiplex cinemas in Belgrade and Podorica, Montenegro, from Greece’s Audiovisual Group. In addition, Cineplexx will open another multiplex in Serbia and a further one in Croatia next year.

Cineplexx Serbia has acquired Belgrade’s Ster Cinemas, a venue with six screens and around 1,100 seats in the shopping mall Delta City, and will refurbish and fit it out with full digital equipment, including Real D 3D for three screens, before its re-opening on December 8. Cineplexx Montenegro will do the same with the Podgorica multiplex which will open on November 10, which will bring the total number of screens in Montenegro to 14.

In the Serbian city of Kragujevac, which has around 200,000 inhabitants and has not had a single screen for the past six years, Cineplexx will open a six-screen, 1,200-seat venue in February/March 2012.

In the same period, Cineplexx and Continental Film will open a multiplex with seven screens and 1,300 seats in Zagreb. In April 2011, the joint venture started running two seven-screen sites in Croatia, in Osijek and Split.

Along with a venue in Italy’s Bozen, after opening of Kragujevac and Zagreb sites, Cineplexx will have a total of seven multiplex cinemas with 44 screens and about 8,500 seats in the region.
