Tomorrow London's audience will discover Hans Weingartner's new film, Die Summe meiner einzelnen Teile ("the sum of individual parts" - international title Hut in the Woods [+see also:
trailer
film profile]), within the frames of the Cinema Europa section of the 55th BFI London Film Festival (October 12-27), in the presence of the director and its actors.

In this production by his Berlin-based company Kahuuna Films, the Austrian director - who made himself known with The Edukators, a film about three anti-capitalist young activists presented in competition at Cannes in 2004, then with the pamphlet against commercial television Free Rainer - Reclaim Your Brain (2007) - revisits the theme of schizophrenia, which he explored through a psychedelic trip that takes a wrong turn in his first feature, The White Sound (2001).

Hut in the Woods tells the story of the encounter between Martin (Peter Schneider), an ex-mathematician whose brilliance has been fading since a spell in a psychiatric hospital, and Viktor (Timur Massold), a Ukrainian orphan whose mother has just died of an overdose and who doesn't speak German. Martin decides to take the boy under his wing and they both embark on returning to a simple life, in the natural setting of a forest where they have built themselves a hut. But the reality of this ideal, even of the presence of this young friend, will soon be challenged. Apart from its two main actors, in this film Weingartner once again findsJulia Jentsch (she was the girl in the trio of The Edukators).

The international sales of Hut in the Woods are managed by French firm Elle Driver. In Germany, the film will come out on February 2, 2012, distributed by Wild Bunch Germany.
