Miles from Anywhere triumphs at Amiens

, the debut feature by Pierre Duculot (see interview), at the Amiens International Film Festival. The film won over both the official jury and the audience, scooping the Golden Unicorn for Best Film, and the Audience Award. Duculot and Amiens share a long and successful history, for his debut short film, Warm Bed, won the La Femis Award there in 2006, and his second short, Last Trip, picked up the Prison Award in 2007.

After a fine festival run (taking in Namur, Brussels, Ostend, Lama, São Paulo, Cabourg, Mannheim, Artemare, Annonay, Montreal), Miles from Anywhere thus won its first accolades this weekend. The film centres on Christina, a young woman weary of the humdrum routine of her daily life, who decides, after an unexpected inheritance, to invest her time and her dreams in a remote old house in the Corsican hills, despite the reticence of those around her.

Christina is the first starring role in a feature for Christelle Cornil, who has appeared in many films. Moreover, last February, she nabbed the Magritte Award for Best Supporting Actress for Illegal [+see also:

Miles from Anywhere is produced by Need Productions, and co-produced by France’s Perspective Films, a company set up in 2008 by Denis Delcampe (founding producer at Need – see interview), Isabelle Truc (Iota Production, Belgium), Pierre-André Thiébaud (PCT Production, Switzerland) and Isabelle Mathy (Pétrouchka Films, France).

The film received backing from the Film and Audiovisual Centre of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the Bruxellimage-Wallimage investment fund, Tax Shelter and the Corsica Region. It is slated for release at the end of January 2012, through Need Productions.
