The Magnificent Eleven set to ride

by

Director Jeremy Wooding (Bollywood Queen) will begin principal photography at East London locations on November 22 for the feel-good British comedy The Magnificent Eleven.

A loose adaptation of the classic Western The Magnificent Seven, itself an adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai, the film transposes the story from the wild west to contemporary London and replaces gunfights with football. The protagonists are amateur footballers who have to save a local curry house from thugs. Peter and John Adams wrote the script with Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting).

The British cast includes Phillip Rhys (pictured - The Space Between), Keith Allen (Vinyl) and Gary Mavers (Victim). American actor Robert Vaughn, the last surviving cast member from the original The Magnificent Seven, plays the villain of the film American Bob. The film will also see a cameo appearance from Welsh as a pub landlord. Welsh was initially due to direct as well but is now serving as a consulting producer.

The film is produced by Plumcourt Productions for Angry Badger Pictures in association with Pure Film Productions, Skyline Entertainment and Premiere Picture and in co-production with Filmgate Films and the Swedish regional film board Film i Vast.

Lions Gate UK will distribute in the UK and Stealth Media will handle international sales.
