3D Stereo Media unveils 1st European 3D co-production market

by

Next week, from December 5-9, the third edition of 3D Stereo Media, the European 3D Stereo Forum for Science, Technology and Digital Art will be held in Liège. Created in 2009, this Forum aims to put the spotlight on all forms of 3D imaging, whether stereoscopic, holographic or other types. 3D Stereo Media aims to foster interactions between artists, scientists, engineers and businessmen in the 3D industry.

In a new addition this year, 3D Stereo Media is hosting the first European Co-production Market for 3D-S Films (or 3D Film Mart - 3DFM), which was launched at the latest Cannes Film Festival by the Walloon Economics Minister. Out of the 60 projects submitted, 20 have been selected. Their producers will thus get the chance to pitch their projects before a panel of investors and potential co-producers. Europe takes pride of place in the selection (with 19 projects out of 20), and besides the dominance of French and British productions, there is also a Belgian project (Terrien, introduced by Ring Prod), an Estonian project (Morten on the Ship of Fools by Nukufilm) and a Hungarian one (Emerson & Co by Cor Leonis Films).

In the 3D relief festival, 18 films have been selected, divided into six categories: feature films, shorts, computer-generated images, alternative content, enhancing accompaniment to music (music video and concert), and student films. There again, we are struck by the impressive European competitiveness. Of particular note is the use of 3D in documentaries, with blockbuster potential that seems to be of great interest to European television companies, with for example Flying Monsters, the project by superstar naturalist David Attenborough (produced in the UK by Atlantic Productions and Sky TV 3D), or the film about German mountaineering champions, The Huber Brothers (produced by ZDF in Germany).

Finally, 3D Stereo Media is hosting the 3D Academy, an extremely intensive three-day training programme in small groups aimed at directors and tool developers, and focusing mainly on the production of 3D films and 3D stereography.
