Strong Spanish presence at audiovisual markets in Latin America and Asia
Everyone agrees on the need for the Spanish audiovisual sector to open itself up to the foreign market to achieve the economic strength that it hasn’t found at home. During the first half of December, two audiovisual markets will be held, which have a key role on two important continents, Asia (Asia TV Forum) and Latin America (Ventana Sur), and where there will be a strong Spanish presence.
From December 7-9, Singapore will host the Asia TV Forum (ATF), specialised in content for television, where several Spanish companies will be in attendance as part of the Audiovisual from Spain pavilion. Organised by FAPAE with backing from ICEX, the event will have participants including Edebe Audiovisual Licensing, Explora Films, Imagina International Sales, Imira Entertainment, Motion Pictures, Vértice Sales and Film Factory.
The ATF is a key market for selling audiovisual products to the Asian market. The increasing importance of this market is reflected in the words of Carlos Sevillano, of Explora Films: “Asia is of growing importance in our sales. Nowadays, they represent around 10% of total sales and this year we hope to increase this figure exponentially”. Moreover, it will be an excellent opportunity to set up co-production agreements, as Iván Ajenjo, of EDEBE, points out: “Animation is one of the most competitive audiovisual genres in Asia, so there are enormous opportunities for collaborating with this continent”.
For its part, Ventana Sur, whose third edition will run until December 6 in Buenos Aires, will include the presentation of a showreel of trailers of some of the most outstanding Spanish productions of the year 2011-12. The ICAA, which organises this promotional event, didn’t hesitate in describing the Buenos Aires market as “the most important film market in Latin America and with important strategic interest for the Spanish industry”.
