FUNDING Belgium

Great Belgian presence at European co-production forum Cartoon Movie

by

The next edition of Cartoon Movie will be held from March 7 to 9 in Lyon. This European co-production forum will allow producers with ongoing animation film projects to meet new partners for financing and co-production, distribution, and international sales.

Of the 50 chosen projects, no less than four are mostly Belgian productions. Among these is the much-anticipated silver screen adaptation of the adventures of Pic Pic André (photo) by Vincent Patar et Stéphane Aubier, whose other heroes the Cowboy, the Indian, and the Horse in A Town Called Panic [+see also:

earned them a special screening in Cannes. With the Pic Pic André Shoow, the directors and La Parti Production take on more off-the-wall Belgian humour.

Also intriguing, Zooks is the ambitious transmedia project of actor and scriptwriter Dimitri Leue. Produced by Scanta, it is to be a cartoon version of Greenpeace’s campaign for children. Through a video game, we will discover a couple of young heroes who have to protect nature in order to find their family. A project to turn this into a feature film with rotoscoping is to enhance this narrative universe.

The other two projects are Cafard (lit. “Cockroach”) by Jan Bultheel, a historic animation film about the Phoney War produced by Panache, and Suzy et Milpli, the Origami by Marie-Laure Guisset and Sylvain Lacroix, the first feature film for young production company Layers.

Belgian companies have also co-produced seven European projects , including Zarafa [+see also:
