Pathé, Wild Bunch, Studio Canal, Memento and Wide pull out their jokers

There have already been many new announcements at the European Film Market at the 62nd Berlinale that started yesterday.

Pathé International has just added Beauty And The Beast by Christophe Gans to its line-up (). Produced by Richard Grandpierre for Eskwad, this fourth feature film by the director of Crying Freeman, The brotherhood of the Wolf, and Silent Hill will start shooting next October with Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) and Léa Seydoux, who last night beautifully opened the festival in Farewell, My Queen.

Wild Bunch has enriched its already strong line-up (article) with the animation film The Suicide Shop by Patrice Leconte (read the interview) that will be ready for Cannes, with Mystery by the Chinese director Lou Ye, being shot at the moment and retracing the strange death of a businessman’s wife, as well as with British co-production Dead Europe by Australian director Tony Krawitz.

Meanwhile, StudioCanal has acquired the international sales rights for Serena by Danish director Susanne Bier (news). The French group will cofinance the film with the American 2929 Entertainment, with whom it previously teamed up for the thriller Blackbird by Stefan Ruzowitzky, and will distribute the film in France, the United Kingdom, and Germany via its three local partners.

Memento Films International (read more) will coproduce and sell the American remake of the Mexican cannibal film We What We Are to be made by Jim Mickle.

Finally, Wide Management has added to its line-up (article) Serbian feature film Clip by Maja Milos, a film that recently won in Rotterdam (read the review) and that will be screened on Monday and Tuesday at Berlin’s European Film Market.
