Sweden’s NonStop anticipates Cannes and acquires Anderson’s Moonrise opener

- Part of Turner Broadcasting, the Nordic and Baltic distributor also adds two Sundance winners and another seven new films to its line-up

Stockholm-based Nordic and Baltic distributor NonStop Entertainment has picked up Scandinavian rights for US director Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, which will open the upcoming Cannes International Film Festival (May 16-27).

Anderson’s first live-action film since Darjeeling Limited (2007) stars Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand and Edward Norton in a story of two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness on an island off the coast of New England in 1965. The deal was negotiated with Focus Features which will launch the film in the US on May 25.

A part of Turner Broadcasting which purchased the Millennium Media Group two years ago, NonStop has also acquired two Sundance winners, US director Behn Zeitlin’s feature debut Beasts of the Southern Wild (from Entertainment One), which received two awards including the Grand Jury Prize, and Swedish director Malik Bendjelloul’s documentary Searching for Sugar Man (Protagonist Pictures), which collected the Special Jury Prize and the Audience Award.

, which was also premiered at Sundance, NonStop has added another seven new titles to its currently, such as French director Laurent Cantet’s upcoming Foxfire (from Memento Films) and French actress-turned-director Agnès Jaoui’s Under The Rainbow (Memento Films), which will shoot this year for a 2013 release.
