German children’s films in Toronto

- German youth makes an appearance in Canada.

The 15th Toronto Kids International Film Festival (April 10-22) shows just how dynamic the children’s film sector is in Germany. Audiences at the festival will be able to discover the SamFilm production released in Germany at the end of January, Fünf Freunde (photo - lit. “Five friends”), an adaptation by Mike Marzuk (Rock it!) of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five series.

In the feature film programme for both the general public and schools, are: Wunderkinder by Marcus O. Rosenmüller (prod. CCC-Filmkunst), the popular The Crocodiles 3 [+see also:

by Wolfgang Groos, produced by children’s film specialist Christian Becker (who also produced films like The Wave [+see also:

]
and Jerry Cotton [+see also:
trailer
film profile
]
) for Rat Pack with Westside Filmproduktion, the Lunaris and Bavaria co-production Emil and the Detective, made in 2001 by Franziska Buch (who also more recently directed Bibi Blocksberg and Hier kommt Lola! [+see also:

]
).

School children will also be able to see Stella and the Star of the Orient by Erna Schmidt, produced in 2008 by Kinderfilm, as well as three shorts.

The short film programme for the general public is made up of seven short films, of which one is also in the school programme.
