Wallimage/ Bruxellimage chooses Flemish film projects

by

- In an 11th session with a Flemish twist, Wallimage/ Bruxellimage chooses two films to star Matthias Schoenaerts, De Behandeling and The Waste Land

The 11th commission of the support programme Wallimage-Bruxellimage has just announced its selectees. Perhaps in a nod to the recent announcement of its new Flemish counterpart Screen Flanders, this time it chose two large-scale Flemish projects, led of course by Brussels-based production companies.

In his new project, Pieter Van Hees brings Matthias Schoenaerts (photo) and Bouli Lanners (in Jacques Audiard’s latest film Rust & Bone [+see also:

) together again in a mixed cast. In The Waste Land (named after TS Eliot’s modernist poem), Van Hees intends to evoke the end of love, through the story of a police inspector (played by Schoenaerts) at the heart of a sinister investigation in a nocturnal and flamboyant Brussels. The film is produced by Epidemic, Koen Mortier and Eurydice Gysel’s production company.

Schoenaerts, who has been everywhere for several months now, and who will probably become unmissable after the Cannes Film Festival, will also star in De Behandeling, a thriller by Hans Herbot (adapted from a bestseller by Mo Hayder), in which he will also play the role of a young policeman investigating an extremely delicate case. The film is produced by Eyeworks Film, a production company specialised in... box offices hits, including Ben X [+see also:

.

This 11th session also chose Sam Gabarski’s next film, My Friend Vijay, a comedy in which the dead are more alive than we think, to feature a surprising cast led by Moritz Bleibtreu and Rosanna Arquette. The film is currently filming, and is produced by Entre chien et loup.

Finally, Eric Rochant’s next film was also selected. The filmmaker returns to the big screen after having shot the last three seasons of Mafiosa. For his financial thriller Moebius, he will bring together a Belgophile cast led by Cécile de France and Emilie Dequenne, alongside Jean Dujardin. Co-produced by Artémis, the film is to start shooting in Brussels this June.
