Both Östlund and Roy Andersson – still working on his A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence for a 2014 release – are dedicated retrospectives, but the Swedish filmmaker in focus is Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, to whom the festival has devoted a special programme, Bergman vs Bergman.

“Since Bergman's works have had such tremendous impact on world cinema, we have selected these non-Swedish films resonating the themes of his films, reflecting the timeless poignancy and significance of Bergman's cinematic vision. US director Woody Allen’s Interiors will be shown because it reflects the love-hate relationship between mother and daughter in Bergman’s Autumn Sonata, and Robert Altman's 3 Women as it can be seen as a tribute to Bergman's Persona.

The festival also revisits Swedish silent classics such as Victor Sjöström, and celebrates the Pippi Longstocking character of Swedish children's book writer Astrid Lindgren, by showing her upside-down legs hanging on a wire with colourful film strips around them, while also screening recent films such as Axel Petersén’s Avalon [+see also:
