FUNDING Belgium

Wallimage invests in more cross-media

by

- In 2012-2013, the Walloon fund continues with its pioneering support for films using cross-media

For the second year in a row, with its CrossMedia investment programme, Belgian regional fund Wallimage stands out as a pioneer in funding cross-media projects that complement cinematic productions. It has just added a new support grant called Digital Experiences to its two other grants set up in 2011 (Digital Extension and Digital Promotion).

Digital Promotion offers a maximum of €50,000 per project to encourage producers to develop cross-media promotion tools for their films, documentaries, and series in Belgium’s French-speaking region, whether these be video games, a mobile telephone application, an interactive website, or a Facebook community. Unlike for the two other grants, there is only one call for applications per year for Digital Promotion. This year the deadline for submissions is on August 27.

Digital Extension aims to stimulate audiovisual production by enhancing a main project’s theme or universe with new developments on digital platforms. This support grant — that can go up to €100,000 — has notably been handed out to Lazarus Mirages, a project currently enjoying great buzz online and in the media.

Digital Experiences is for more experimental projects, and offers financial support to initiatives linked to cinema in the broader sense, but without any link (and this is new too!) to a main project already supported by Wallimage Coproductions (an interactif digital book, using image and sound in artistic performances, digital lute-making...).
