"Cartoon d’Or" Nominations
- Belgium, France, and the United Kingdom compete for Europe’s top animation award scheduled for 20 September in Varese Italy
The 22nd edition of the Animated Design Festival of Brussels, now known as “Anima 2003” ended on 9 March with the announcement of the nominations for the Cartoon d’Or 2003 award for the best European animated film of the year. The films in competition are: Desperado by Yves Bex (Belgium), Train Train Medina by Mohamadou Ndoye (Belgium/Senegal), The Dog Who Was A Cat by Siri Melchior (United Kingdom) and Biotape by Merwan Chabane (France).
The “Cartoon D’Or” award was created by Cartoon, the European animation platform that is part of the EU’s MEDIA II programme. It will be assigned on 20 September 2003 in Varese, Italy.
In the meantime, the following animated awards were presented: Grok by Sacha Boubnov (France) won the Grand Prix Spirou (including a cash prize of Euros2500), while the winner of the first edition of the “Webanima” (2003) award (for animated films that are published on the Internet) was won by Genoma 2020 by Andrès Liebon (Brazil).
