Ten new films from six German film schools form the programme of this year’s Next Generation special event that will be presented at the next Cannes Film Festival.
“Next Generation” was set up in 1997 by the German Export-Union to promote films by German students of cinema abroad. The sixth edition will be presented to an audience of industry professionals on 18 May at the Star Cinema in Cannes, as part of Export-Union’s programme at the International Film Market (MIF).
The titles showcased in Next Generation 2003 are Festisch by Richard Lehun, Guerra alle Pietre by Andreas Teuchert (both of whom are students at the German Film & TV Academy of Berlin); Ritterschlag by Sven Martin and Hochbetrieb by Andreas Krein (both from the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy); Kungstgriff by André F. Nebe (from the Hamburg Film Workshop); The Day Winston Ngakambe Came to Kiel by Jasper Ahrens and Gack Gack by Olaf Encke ( Potsdam-Babelsberg/HFF Academy for Film & Television); Spring by Oliver Held and Letzte Bahn by Tom Uhlenbruck (Academy for Media Arts Cologne); and Sofa by Hyekung Jung (Kassel Academy of Arts).
The programme also includes a special screening of Chris Stenner, Heidi Wittlinger and Arvid Uibel’s Oscar-nominated short film, Rocks.
