Wong Kar-wai to preside over Berlinale jury
- Berlin International Film Festival organisers have said Chinese director Wong Kar-wai will lead the jury at next year's event in February
The jury president for the international competition at the 63rd Berlin Film Festival (February 7 to 17, 2013) is to be Chinese film director Wong Kar-wai.
"Wong Kar Wai is one of the most celebrated filmmakers of our time. His distinctive signature and the poetry of his works have fascinated all of us," said Berlinale festival director Dieter Kosslick. "For him to become jury president, is a wish come true. Since the 1980s, the Berlinale has established itself at a platform for contemporary Chinese cinema – another reason for us to be very honoured to have Wong Kar-wai as president of the 2013 international jury."
"I am very happy to return to Berlin,” answered the director.
Wong Kar-wai was invited to Berlin as soon as he finished his second feature, Days of Being Wild, that was screened in the festival's Forum section in 1991. In 1996, in the same section, he screened Fallen Angels.
