On Friday, Pichler’s film was announced as the winner of the prestigious Critics’ Week award. The winner is voted for by the festival’s own spectators. Seven films were in the running from every corner of the world.
The press described Gabriela Pichler’s film as the “debut of a convincing director with a cinematographic language capable of expressing states of mind.”
Main actress Nermina Lukac received praise for her “explosive performance of her role evoking neorealism.
Mangia, dormi, muori will have its North American premiere on Sunday at the Toronto Film festival, where director Gabriela Pichler is currently staying. “I am deeply proud of my actors who Venice audiences took to heart,” says Pichler.
Actress Nermina Lukac will be in Venice to receive the award. China Åhlander (Anagram production) is the film’s producer and the film will be coming out in Sweden on October 5.
