became the most popular new release of the decade, with 13,929 admissions. The comedy was released on approximately 40 screens in 19 cities and beat Cristian Mungiu's Palme d'Or winner 4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days [+see also:

Since its national premiere at this year's Transylvania International Film Festival (June 1-10), Of Snails and Men has been seen by 19,612 Romanians, according to a press release from the distributor Transilvania Film. With these numbers and at this pace, the comedy will need only one more week to beat the most successful domestic release of 2011, The Godmother (26,746 admissions), a comedy produced by MediaPro Pictures.

Of Snails and Men leads a wave of new domestic releases, as autumn is the favourite season of local distributors. On October 19, MediaPro will release Lie To Me Nicely, a romantic comedy, and one week later Romanians will be able to see Beyond the Hills [+see also:

, which premiered in the Critics' Week sidebar at this year's Venice film festival, will follow on November 16. Radu Gabrea's docudrama Three Days Till Christmas, about the last days in the life of Elena and Nicolae Ceausescu, and Florin Piersic Jr.'s Killing Time are also expected in cinemas, but no release date has been announced so far.
