Winning the Golden Bear in Berlin last February, the Taviani brothers’ film was produced by Kaos by Grazia Volpi. It was also recipient of five David di Donatello awards – for best film, director, producer, editing and sound – as well as the Silver Ribbon of the Year. Brought to Italian movie theatres last March by Nanni Moretti’s Sacher, as of September 12, the film had grossed € 730,713. It is Italy’s most successful export this year, having already been sold in 73 different countries.

The Academy will be announcing nominations next January 10, while 24 February 2013 will mark the actual award ceremony.
