Troell's The Last Sentence sold for US distribution

- The 81-year-old Swedish director's 25th film, which opens in Sweden on December 7, will be released by Music Box Films

struck as nothing short of a masterpiece by a film-maker working at the top of his form," said Managing Director Edward Arentz, of US distributor Music Box Films. "We have long admired the work of Jan Troell (photo), and it is a special privilege to release his 25th film."

The fourth feature in 11 years by the now 81-year-old Swedish filmmaker, which won for Best Director at the recent World Film Festival in Montreal – and which will open domestically on December 7 through Nordisk Film Sweden – has been picked up by the American company, which has since 2007 established itself as a leading distributor of foreign product, besides local indies and documentaries.

Denmark's TrustNordisk orchestrated the sale of The Last Sentence, previously known as Truth and Consequence, starring Danish actor Jesper Christensen and Swedish actress Pernilla August in a portrait of Swedish journalist and editor-in-chief Torgny Segerstedt (1876-1945), who fought a one-man battle against Germany during World War II, when Sweden was neutral and in fear of the consequences.

While his editorials – quoted by the BBC – raged against the Nazis, his own life was in a mess: while married himself, he fell in love with the wife of a friend. Scripted (with Danish author Klaus Rifbjerg), directed, photographed and edited by Troell, the film is produced by Francy Suntinger for FilmLance International AB.
