17/10/2012 - Felix Herngren's The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, adapted from Swedish author Jonas Jonasson's novel, has begun filming in Hungary

Swedish author Jonas Jonasson's first novel, The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, which took the Swedish Booksellers' Prize and also became their bestselling title in 2010, is on the way to the big screen. The book rights have been licensed to 35 countries.

Directed by Swedish actor-director Felix Herngren (photo) to become his first feature in six years - which he also scripted with Hans Ingemansson - the Nice FLX Pictures production has started shooting in Hungary before Thailand, Sweden and probably Spain.

Swedish actor Robert Gustafsson - once named as 'Sweden's Funniest Man' - stars as Allan Karlsson, who after long and eventful life ends up at a nursing home - the last stop. Gustafsson won Sweden's national film prize, the Guldbagge, for his performance in Tomas Alfredson's Four Shades of Brown (2004).

Karlsson's problem is his health refuses to let him down, and now he turns 100. The mayor, the press, the entire staff are all expecting him for the big celebration, but he doesn't want to be part of it and decides to climb out of the window, to embark on another adventurous voyage.

Nice FLX Pictures, owned by Sweden's FLX 2.0 and Nice Drama, a part of leading independent TV producer in the Nordic countries, Nice Entertainment, has now received €1.3 million production funding from the SFI- Swedish Film Institute/Svenska Filminstitutet.

Produced by Henrik Jannsson-Schweizer, Patrick Nebout and Herngren, with Swedish regional film centre, Film i Väst, The Hundred-Year-Old Man... will be released by Disney's Buena Vista International during Christmas 2013. The Tele München Group will handle German-speaking territories.
