"I was young in the 1970s, I had seen the dismantling of welfare, and I had been participating in protest demonstrations. This is a damn good script depicting a special and interesting time in Sweden," said Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt (photo).

Swedish director Kjell-Åke Andersson, who most recently directed Somewhere Else (2011), has cast him in the lead of Nobody Owns Me, from Swedish author Åsa Linderborg's best-selling, autobiographical novel. The film follows a little girl who grows up with her father from the age of four when her mother leaves them, and against all the odds she graduates from the University of Uppsala with a doctorate in history. "It is the story of a man suffering from progressive alcoholism, who is also broken down by work and his social situation," Andersson explained.

Persbrandt performs with Tanja Lorentzon, Sten Ljunggren and Ida Engvoll/Saga Samuelsson/Ping Mon Wallén as his daughter in Swedish Oscar and Emmy-nominated writer Pia Gradvall's screenplay; Swedish producer Francy Suntinger has packaged the production for FilmLance International with Film i Väst, and Svensk Filmindustri AB will release domestically in autumn 2013.
