Kali, the Little Vampire nominated at the Annie Awards

Portuguese director Regina Pessoa’s Kali, the Little Vampire has been nominated in the short film section at the Annie Awards. It’s the first time that a Portuguese co-production is competing at the awards known as the “animation Oscars”. The awards ceremony is to be held on February 2, 2013, in Los Angeles.

Kali, the Little Vampire is the latest instalment in a trilogy about childhood and its fears that the 43-year-old director started in 1999 with The Night and continued in 2005 with the acclaimed Tragic Story with Happy Ending (read more).

Narrated by Christopher Plummer in its English version, the film is produced by Abel Feijó for Ciclope Filmes, in co-production with the National Film Board of Canada, the French Folimage and the Swiss Studio Gds.

Since is release at the IndieLisboa film festival in April last year, the film has reaped awards at several international festivals (Hiroshima, Serbia, Chicago…) and is expected to screen at the Clermont Ferrand (France) and Anima (Belgium) film festivals in 2013.
