10/12/2012 - New works by Terence Davies and Andrew Haigh in the offing

Creative England is putting its weight behind 34 new British films including 29 that are in development and five that are seeking finance. Many are projects by first or second time filmmakers. Supported projects include Weekend director Andrew Haigh’s second feature Simon Is Waiting; Skeletons director Nick Whitfield’s My Dirty Little Book Of Stolen Time; Son Of Babylon director Mohamed Al-Daradji’s 3 Voices: In The Sands; and veteran Terence Davies’ Sunset Song [+see also:

Other supported projects include adaptations of Girl Missing from the teen novel by Sophie Mackenzie and Boxy An Star from the cult novel by Daren King, and documentaries such as the North Korean-set The Lovers and the Despot [+see also:

film profile] from director Robert Cannan (Three Miles North of Molkom) and Paa Joe: Dead, not Buried from rising star Benjamin Wigley. These and other projects are part of the agency’s first talent development brochure, which will be published biannually.

Creative England’s Head of Talent, Chris Moll, said, “At Creative England we’re very focused on maximising the exposure for the talent that we support with development funding. We do this by making sure they have access to the very best industry contacts and markets that we can provide. Our talent development brochure is part of this wider ‘money plus’ strategy and we hope it will add to the buzz already building around many of these projects.”
