More than €500,000 worth of foreign releases in 2012

- Including the last €90,500 granted, in 2012, German Films has dedicated €567,000 to supporting the theatrical releases of local films abroad

In its sixth and last sitting for 2012, German Films' Distribution Support awards committee allocated €90,500 to support 12 campaigns for the releases of 11 German films abroad, which makes the total amount spent by the committee in 2012 €567,000 (for 83 theatrical releases).

The last eleven titles supported last year are the following:

  • Baikonur in Spain (distributor: Pirámide Distribución, release date:12/28/2012)
  • Barbara in Japan (distributor: New Select, release date: 1/19/2013)
  • Hannah Arendt in Switzerland (distributor: Filmcoopi, release date: 1/17/2013)
  • In Darkness in Italy (distributor: Good Films, release date: 1/24/2013)
  • Combat Girls (photo) in France (distributor: UFO Distribution, release date: 3/27/2013)
  • Lore in South Korea (distributor: Lumix Media, release date: 2/21/2013)
  • Garbage in the Garden of Eden in Greece and Cyprus (distributor: Rosebud, release date: 2/7/2013)
  • Oh Boy in Switzerland (distributor: Filmcoopi, release date: 1/10/2013)
  • Der Schlussmacher in Austria (distributor: Thimfilm, release date: 1/11/2013)
  • Forget Me Not in Switzerland (distributor: Look Now!, release date: 1/31/2013)
  • Yoko in Sweden (distributor: AB Svensk Filmindustri, release date: 1/25/2013)

Since 2005, the Distribution Support funding programme has supported the theatrical release of German films abroad to promote the international circulation of German films for cultural reasons and improve the chances of German films to make it in foreigh markets. Subsidies up to €50,000 are awarded for additional measures to the release campaigns already planned by the foreign distributors selected. They are are granted in the form of conditionally repayable loans. Funding of up to € 10,000 can also be allocated as a grant.
