by Bille August, Switzerland treats itself a key place on the official programme of the 63rd Berlinale. The movie based on Pascal Mercier’s best-seller is, in fact, one of the five films to be presented out of competition during the Berlinale. Coproduced by the Zurich-based production company C-Films, the film offers a prestigious cast of international stars: Jeremy Irons, Mélanie Laurent, Jack Huston, Martina Gedeck, Christopher Lee, Charlotte Rampling and Bruno Ganz.

The Swiss short film Traumfrau (directed by Oliver Schwarz) will also be celebrating its international premiere in the short film competition, Berlinale Shorts. The Panorama section can then count on the presence of Paul Bowles: The Cage Door Is Always Open, directed by Daniel Young. Finally, Swiss filmmaker Peter Liechti, whose previous movie The Sound Of Insects [+see also:

won international acclaim, will show his most recent work, Vaters Garten – Die Liebe meiner Eltern, at the 43rd International Forum for Young Cinema, while the successful documentary More Than Honey by Markus Imhoof (180,000 admissions in Switzerland, Prix du Cinéma Bavarois 2013) will be shown in the "German Cinema - LOLA@Berlinale" section, and is thus present on the list of movies competing for a nomination for the German Cinema Prize. Finally, Swiss actress Carla Juri will be one of the ten European peformers who will participate in the Shooting Stars event, to take place from February 9th to 11th as a part of the Berlinale.
