A Royal Affair makes space for Denmark's Robert awards

 received 15 (out of 16) nominations for a Robert trophy, when the Danish Film Academy yesterday (January 23) announced the candidates for this year’s awards, which will be presented at a TV2 televised ceremony in Copenhagen’s Tivoli Hotel and Congress Centre. Nominated for an Oscar as Best Foreign-Language Feature (it missed out on the Golden Globe nom), the Mads Mikkelsen-Alicia Vikander starrer is also considered in all categories for the Danish Film Critics’ Bodil prize, which will find its new owners on March 13.

16 Danish films are represented on the nominations’ list – the Academy’s 1,200 members have five entries to choose from when voting for Best Feature, with Tobias Lindholm’s A Hijacking [+see also:

 the strongest-runner up to Arcel, with 12 nominations. For the first time (like with the Bodils) acting brothers Mads and Lars Mikkelsen will compete against each other for the Best Actor award (A Royal Affair, A Caretaker’s Tale [+see also:

, respectively). And for the first time the Academy will give Roberts in fivecategories for Best TV Series.

“2012 was an outstanding year for Danish cinema, both at the local box-office and the international festival circuit. Our nominations confirm the quality and diversity of Danish films, which we are proud to celebrate; it is not only a few high-profile titles – A Royal AffairA HijackingLove Is All You Need – that steal the spotlight,” said Academy board member and festival director Jacob Neiiendam, of the CPH:PIX-Copenhagen International Film Festival.
