From animation to live action: Captain Sabertooth is back

by

- Norway's Storm Films is preparing Norwegian director Lisa Marie Gamlem’s Captain Sabertooth and the Lama Rama Treasure, a €5.1 million feature reviving Terje Formoe’s character

Ten years ago Captain Sabertooth, the world’s youngest pirate, left on board the Dark Lady to find the treasure trove of Gory Gabriel, in Swedish director Stig Bergqvist’s fully-animated feature, which took 185,000 local admissions.

The pirate captain – the brainchild of Norwegian former teacher Terje Formoe, who from 1992 wrote a series of plays about him which he also performed – will return in a €5.1 million live action movie, Captain Sabertooth and the Lama Rama Treasure, packaged by Frederick HowardGudny Hummelvoll, Lars Hellebust and Fredrik Støbakk, for Norway’s Storm Films.

Emmy-nominated for Ping Pong, she has made several episodes for Lilyhammer.

Captain Sabertooth is one of Norway’s strongest brands for children,” said head of production and development Ivar Køhn, of the Norwegian Film Institute, which has chipped in €2.1 million for the project from Storm Films, a member of the Storm Group with the VFX House Storm Studios, local distributor Euforia Film and part-owned Nordisk Film Shortcut.
