28/02/2013 - The initiative, organised by Luce Cinecittà and Anec Lazio, will bring six of the most significant documentaries from recent festivals into movie theatres. An agreement with iTunes is pending

Festival audiences may have had an opportunity to see them, but what happened to those documentaries that once upon a time shone during these events?  This is the question that Rodrigo Cipriani Foresio and Giorgio Ferrero, heads of Luce Cinecittà and Anec Lazio, asked themselves. And in order to make sure that some of these documentaries did not disappear into oblivion, they launched L'Italia si racconta (meaning Italy tells its own story), an initiative which will bring six of the most significant documentaries from recent festivals. Prices of tickets have been set to be €3.50 a pop.

Every first Tuesday of the month, a recent documentary will be released in seventeen Rome and Lazio movie theatres. Each film will have more than one séance, with the possibility of prolonging its projection in following days, as well as have director presentations. Kick-off will be on March 5 with Anija - La nave [+see also:

The initiative will come to an end on August 6 with the unseen Hitler-Mussolini - L'opera des assassins by Frenchman Jean-Christophe Rosé (produced by Marco Visalberghi). The film is a colourful reconstruction, with ironic undertones, of the interpersonal relationship between the two dictators.

"The aim is for the Lazio-based Tuesdays to become national ones starting in September-October,” the head of Luce Cinecittà declared. "We are closing a deal with iTunes for the creation of a space dedicated to Italian cinema and documentary films. We should be able to start with Luce Cinecittà productions in the next three months, but the window will not be limited to just that.” Documentaries are finding a space for themselves again. The hope being now, that they will also find an audience.
