Towards a Europe of cinema and culture

- The French CNC’s President welcomes the new funding policy of Italian cinema and cooperation between the two countries

The president of the CNCEric Garandeau (photo), expressed his delight yesterday in a press release regarding the implementation in Italy of a new funding policy for Italian and European cinema, thanks to the contribution of Italian television channels, encouraged to coproduce and pre-purchase Italian films. A new development which also includes obligations to distribute films with an under quota of Italian films. The details of the decree can be found here.

Emphasizing that this decision, inspired by the French model (also recently applied in Croatia), has been fuelled by very close cooperation between the Film Board for Italian cinema and the French CNC, Eric Garandeau insisted on the necessity of pursuing these efforts all over the "Old Continent", notably to draw telecommunications operators into this laudable thrust to gain support for European creation. According to him: “This is how, through national policies inspired by the best experiences of other member states, a Europe of cinema and culture needs to be built, a Europe enriched by its local and national identities, enriched by its diversities".
