Rome launches its first European Women Filmmakers Festival

by

- Organized by L'Isola del Cinema, a reference summer cinema venue, the competition will select ten European pieces of work directed by women. Applications are open until April 30, 2013.

The first European Women Filmmakers Festival will take place in Rome between June and July 2013. The European festival will be entirely dedicated to female talent and will offer a selection of the best films made by women born or working within the confines of the European Union.

Ten pieces of cinema art, produced between September 1, 2012 and June 1, 2013, with an Italian premiere, will be selected to compete before a jury of five who will hand out the following prizes: Best Director, Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Actor.

The first edition of the EWF Festival will be held within the Isola del Cinema event, which takes place every summer on the Tiberina Island in the middle of Rome, this year running in June and July 2013. Every week, a director or a film star will be invited to introduce their film to the island’s public, just before the film itself is introduced to the Italian national press.

The chosen films may have been presented and may have received awards during other international festivals, with the exception of Italian ones. Applications should be received by April 30, 2013 by filling out this form. Putting yourself down for the event is free.
