73,596 downloaded Scandi Sensations from France's MUBI arthouse service

From an initiative by the Oslo-based Nordisk Film & TV Fond, French arthouse-oriented MUBI VoD service as has since July 12 last year programmed 97 Nordic classics and recent films as Scandi Sensations, and so far registered 73,596 paying downloads from the platform’s six million film fans in 152 countries (since 2010 including the Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden).
“Our success criteria was 70,000 downloads within 18 months, so 73,596 after six months are nothing short of sensational,” explained managing director Hanne Palmquist (photo), of the Nordisk Film & TV Fond, who launched the initiative with support from the Nordic Council of Minister’s globalisation pool.
Analysing titles on a viewing and global perspective concludes that the most popular films were a mix of commercial and niche fare including Inheritance, Brothers [+see also:

film profile], When Darkness Falls, Volcano [+see also:
film profile], Black's Game [+see also:
film profile], Easy Money [+see also:
film profile], The Ambassador, Stockholm East, Pure and most of Danish director Lars von Trier's films.
According to the Nordic fund, MUBI Scandi Sensations will continue till December. Access to films has become more easy, per the service’s vp Business Development Bobby Allen. “Rights holders now have a clear strategy for VoD and are mostly keen to exploit their content on many platforms on a non-exclusive basis to maximise their revenue,” Allen concluded.
