The Almodóvar brothers coproduce Hispanic Argentinian Relatos Salvajes
- Damián Szifron’s latest project, a coproduction by Argentinian Kramer & Sigman Films with El Deseo, will start shooting on April 8 in different locations across South America
Shooting for Argentine Damián Szifron’s latest film will start on April 8 in Buenos Aires through company. The film will rely on the coproduction of the Almodóvar brothers through their company El Deseo. Relatos Salvajes will be made up of six independent stories combining suspense, humour and violence.
Work will last eight weeks and will take place across various locations in Argentina like Buenos Aires, Salta and Jujuy.
This Hispanic-Argentinian coproduction will benefit from a budget of around €3 million, 70% of which coming from South American countries, and 30% from Spain. It will be produced by Pedro and Agustín Almodóvar for El Deseo and by Hugo Sigman for Kramer & Sigman Films, with executive production by Matías Mosteirin.
Another point in common with Pedro Almodóvar’s work will be the soundtrack, which is to be composed by Alberto Iglesias.
Even if he is especially known for Pedro Almodóvar’s films, El Deseo has produced films by other well-known filmmakers including Alex de la Iglesia, Gonzalo Suárez and Isabel Coixet. A great part of his attention in terms of coproduction has been dedicated to South American projects, such as Relatos salvajes; El último verano de la Boyita (2009) by Julia Solomonoff; La niña santa (2004) and La mujer sin cabeza (2008), all by Lucrecia Martel, and La fiebre del loco (2001) by Andres Wood.
As Agustín Almodóvar confirmed, “when we read the Relatos salvajes screenplay, we found everything we look for in a project: originality and audaciousness combined with talent. He [Szifron] is a satirical genius and every single one of these stories will move audiences. Relatos salvajes is an authentic adventure journey to the world of strong emotions.”
The director explained that the various stories are tied by themes connected to “the ephemeral borders between civilisation and Barbary, the vertigo of losing foothold, the incomparable pleasure of losing control.”
Producer Hugo Sigman defined the film as “an extraordinary cinematographic adventure, marked by talent, fantasy and Damián humour, [...] a homage to cinema and the power of imagination.”
The cast is made up of some of the most popular Argentinian actors, including Ricardo Darín, Oscar Martínez, Darío Grandinetti, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Érica Rivas, Rita Cortese and Julieta Zylberberg.
