Originally premiered at Karlovy Vary 2012, in the East of the West Competition (where it received a Special Mention), the erotic sci-fi film went on to have huge festival success across Europe and beyond including winning a Golden Melies – one of Europe’s most prestigious awards for genre films – at the 2012 Stiges Film Festival .
Recently screened at a number of US festivals, the Lithuanian/French/Belgian co-production will be released theatrically by niche US distributor Artsploitation Films, which has also recently distributed the controversial Serbian film Clip. Vanishing Waves will be screened during the coming weeks in New York, Chicago, LA and Philadelphia with other states expected to be announced soon. It will then be released on VOD and DVD at the end of July.
Buožytė is currently working on her next feature, an adaptation of the Christopher Priest novel The Glamour.
