MEDIA Mundus to foster 27 European initiatives

The EU programme MEDIA Mundus has granted a total sum of €4.4 million to 27 European initiatives in the fields of education, training, distribution and promotion of audiovisual works, which are trying to improve access to foreign markets and the distribution and circulation of films worldwide. France and Germany are the MEDIA member states that receive the biggest slice of the cake - €612,168, which represents 14% of the MEDIA Mundus funding, will be spent on German initiatives.

The Hamburg-based European Film Promotion receive €70,000 for the Producers Lab Toronto 2013-2014. Twelve selected European and Canadian producers are invited to talk about co-production possibilities at this networking platform, which takes place from September 4 to 7, 2013. Australia and New Zealand will be the host countries this year. The Match Factory in Cologne received €220,000 for their Distribution 2.0 programme. The world sales company launched the project to develop international marketing campaigns for online and day-and date-releases of feature films.

Three projects that are supported by MEDIA Mundus are based in Berlin. The Erich Pommer Institut gets a cash injection of €120,000 for the workshop Trans Atlantic Partners, which provides producers with practically relevant information on the legal framework and the financing possibilities of Canadian-European or American-European co-productions. The new Berlinale script development programme Berlinale Residency receives €97,168 - filmmakers from all over the world are invited to come to Berlin, where industry professionals are helping them to develop their projects. In addition, the initiative Primexchange will be granted €98,000. The Berlin-based company Primehouse brings together producers from Europe and India who have projects in development that can be produced as international co-productions.
