Ombline, motherhood behind bars conquers the RIFF

An award ceremony last night marked the end of the twelfth edition of RIFF, the Rome Independent Film Festival (4-10 April), which reached record levels of attendance this year.

The festival showed over 120 feature films, shorts and documentaries from over 40 countries and gave out RIFF Awards to the value of around €50,000.

The award for best international feature length film went to Ombline [+see also:

 by French Stephane Cazes. The film is an intense drama on the difficulties of being a mother in prison (read the article), and was also awarded best actress in the international feature length film section for Melanie Thierry’s great performance.

Best Italian feature length film was a draw between Transeuropae Hotel by Luigi Cinque and Aquadro [+see also:

 by Stefano Lodovichi, a story of sex, love and social media between two teenagers (read the article). Mapa by Spanish León Siminiani won the statuette for best international documentary film, while best Italian documentary went to La valle dello Jato by Caterina Monzani and Sergio Vega Borrego.
