Polish director Agnieszka Holland will preside over the Grand Jury. The Warsaw native studied at Prague’s FAMU during the 1968 occupation of Czechoslovakia and has recently put her experiences from that era to the use of her HBO series Burning Bush, which will also be screened in Karlovy Vary. "I have always found the very principle of competition in art problematic and it’s why I rarely agree to be a jury member. However, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to discover (and help) new films at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival," Holland said.

The organizers have previously announced a first major comprehensive showcase of the movies produced by Borderline Films, a forward-thinking production company behind such works as Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011).

The festival has also announced an overview of industry related panels and events, including another edition of Works in Progress, which has generated a number of successful titles in its last year. The full lineup including all competitive sections is to be announced June 18th. For more news go to the festival´s website.

The 48th Karlovy Vary IFF will be held from June 28–July 6 2013.
