New German films on politicians, artists and criminals

The regional German film fund Film-und Medienstiftung NRW has green-lit the production support to the amount of €6.58 million for 18 film and television projects. Cologne-based Heimatfilm, which produced award-winning films such as Hannah Arendt [+see also:

 received €850,000 for the political thriller Lichtjahre by Christoph Hochhäusler (I Am Guilty) - the story focuses on a journalist who thinks he is being manipulated.

With his documentary Taste the Waste, Valentin Thurn generated a lot attention for a subject that is often ignored. For his new project 10 000 000 000, he has chosen a similar approach and is going to investigate how the global population can be nourished in the future. The producers Alte Celluloid Fabrik and Thurnfilm are also supported, with € 140,000.  A very interesting inside look at the current state of German television takes German director Dominik Graf (Dreileben, Der rote Kakadu [+see also:

, Der Felsen) in his cinematic essay Es werde Stadt, which is being backed by €120,000 from the NRW film fund.

Bavarian writer/director Hans Steinbichler delivered with acclaimed debut feature Hierankl, an unconventional family drama - his new picture Landauer will star Josef Bierbichler again, who this time will play Kurt Landauer, legendary president of the German soccer club Bavaria Munich. The financial input from North Rhine-Westphalia comes to €400,000. Another biopic is Sternstunde meines Lebens,which tells the story of the laywer and politician Elisabeth Selbert, who in 1948-9 ensured that women's equality became part of the constitution in Germany. Directed by Erica von Moeller and produced by thevissen filmproduktion, the project is funded with € 480,000.

 (€150,000) on German writer Peter Handke and Lutz Hachmeister's documentary Schloss und Amt – Der Fall des Präsidenten Christian Wulff (€180,000) on the sensational downfall of the former German Federal President Christian Wulff.
