- The Belgian producer is named director of the Copenhagen-Bruxelles documentary consulting organisation, with more than 1,000 members from more than 60 countries
Launched in 1996, and now with over 1,000 members from more than 60 countries, European Documentary Network has named Belgian producer Paul Pauwels new director of the organisation. This week (May 15) Pauwels will take over strategic planning and future development of the EDN, replacing Danish producer Hanne Skjødt, who left the position after two years in March 2013.
Most recently CEO of Belgian production company Congoo bvba, Pauwels has previously been head of media academy ETMA and commissioning editor at Belgian pubcaster VRT; with more than 30 years of experience producing documentaries for the local and international market, he was one of EDN’s first chairmen and has been a member of the Eurovision Documentary Workgroup, as well as tutor, moderator and expert at many European workshops and seminars.
“I consider it a privilege to put my producer experience at the service of an association that is veryclose to my heart,” Pauwels said. “Some decades ago a small group of European professionals gathered in Marseille to create a documentary network that would allow its members to share knowledge and information. Today, EDN is a solid instrument with an impressive track record.”
Pauwels will from Wednesday be available for meetings and appointments at the EDN office in Copenhagen as well as the new EDN antenna office in Brussels. His will represent the organisation at the MeetMarket in Sheffield mid-June, where EDN will run a consultation service. EDN provides documentary consulting and informs about possibilities for funding, financing, development, co-production, distribution and collaboration across borders.
