The Icelandic Film Centre (IFC), the new body that replaced the Icelandic Film Fund (IFF), has made several key appointments. They include the arrival of Laufey Gudjonsdottir as the new managing director with a 5-year mandate. Gudjonsdottir is currently the Head of Programme Acquisitions at Iceland's state television. She was unanimously recommended by a 7-man advisory committee representing the various branches of Iceland’s film industry, overseen by the Icelandic Minister of Culture.
They also hired a number of other key executives including Gudrun Edda Thorhannesdottir who becomes the IFC’s new Head of International Relations and Hjortur Gretarsson, who will be a producer at the IFC. Kristin Paldottir was reconfirmed as Short Film and Documentary Consultant and a new Film Consultant will be named shortly.
The IFF changed its named to the IFC under a new Film Law that came into effect at the beginning of the year. The new IFC will be taking over all activities previously handled by the IFF, including film the production and promotion of Icelandic films at home and abroad. Under the new Law, the National Film Archive is now a separate entity, supervised by Thorarinn Gudnason.
